Microblading, also known as “eyebrow embroidery,” “3-D brows,” and “microstroking,” is semi-permanent brow art meant to mimic real brow hairs. Microblading typically lasts 1-2 years depending on sun exposure, sweat, skin type, skin care routine and other factors. The procedure is done by using a hand tool with ultra-fine needles, and each “hair” is gently etched into the skin to provide realistic hair-like strokes.
Your first microblading session should take about 2-2.5 hours. The session includes a thorough consultation, grooming, shaping/mapping, numbing and color matching. A complimentary touch-up service is included 6 to 9 weeks from the first session; this session takes approximately 1-1.5 hours.
Directly after the procedure: Many clients love their brows directly after treatment, however, depending on your skin sensitivity, the skin may appear pink/red and the pigment may be a bit darker.
Days 2-4: Brows will appear dark.
Days 5-7: Scabbing will start to lift off of skin. As scabs shed, they will take pigment with them if pulled off too soon so NO PICKING. Please follow proper aftercare for best results.
Days 8-10: Pigment will “disappear.”
Days 14-28: Pigment will start to resurface but will appear patchy in some areas and be approximately 40-60% lighter than initial application.
At the 6-9 week touch-up, we will perfect the final look.
Microblading is only semi-permanent, so after healing is complete the pigment will continue to fade and eventually disappear if no touch-ups are done. Skin type, facial products and lifestyle are all factors that affect how the pigment will fade. Oily skin, sweat, sun exposure, facial treatments, using AHAs, glycolic and lactic acids are all examples of factors which would cause faster pigment fading.
Yes! The first session lays the foundation for the final outcome. The healed results will be significantly lighter and some areas will not take the pigment as well as others—resulting in gaps. Once we see the healed results, we can adjust color, shape, and fullness as needed, and the pigment will hold better as well. This touch-up session will perfect your look and help your results last longer.
Touch-ups can be made no sooner than 4 weeks post-procedure. However, the recommendation is 6 to 9 weeks to ensure your skin is fully healed. Touch-ups scheduled past 9 weeks will be no longer be complimentary and charged the appropriate touch-up price. Please see the Services list for current pricing.
The pain level for microblading procedures is considered mild to none. A numbing topical anesthetic is applied to the area during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. However, each person’s experience will vary depending on their pain tolerance and receptiveness to numbing agents. Topical anesthetics used may contain Lidocaine, Prilocaine, Benzocaine, Tetracaine, and Epinephrine.
After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area are normal. Clients compare the feeling to a light sunburn. You may take pain relievers AFTER the procedure, but not 24 hours before.
Because microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade over time. Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years and each individual’s color retention will vary based on skin type, facial products, health and overall lifestyle. To maintain fresh-looking brows, maintenance touch-ups are recommended every 6-12 months. Without touch-ups, your pigment will eventually fade away.
I take all proper precautions to ensure a sanitized work station and every blade is disposable and never reused. When clients follow the prep and aftercare instructions, there will be minimal risks or complications. Although allergic reactions to the pigments are rare, it could be possible for certain individuals. A pigment patch test is suggested for individuals who have skin sensitivities or are specifically sensitive to:
Topical makeup products
Gold, silver, and nickel
Hair dyes
Patch tests should be performed at least 24 hours prior to the procedure. If you are concerned about sensitivities/allergies, please schedule a consultation for a patch test.
As with all cosmetic procedures, it is recommended to do your research and find an artist who best suits your aesthetic goals. I pre-draw every stroke so the client may see a preview of the finished product. I do not start microblading until you approve the pre-draw.
I take a great amount of pride in my work and put care into each one of my client’s customized brows. Every effort will be made to achieve a desirable outcome (i.e., tone/color/shape); however, please keep in mind that there are many variables and as with any cosmetic procedure, results are not guaranteed.
Color and shape corrections can be made during the touch-up session. In some instances, additional session(s) may be desired. Without touch-ups, microblading will eventually fade away.
I also take great pride in being as transparent and communicative as possible throughout the process to help manage expectations and help avoid unnecessary surprises. Brows are a great luxury, but I always recommend to wait until you’re ready!
